Initial Assessment

The initial assessment usually lasts around 60-90 minutes. This is where I learn about your past history with food and what you are looking to learn from a dietitian. I will collect some information about your past medical history and evaluate your current nutritional status. Together we will develop an individualized meal plan and decide what steps need to be taken to meet your nutrition goals. You will also be provided with some nutrition recommendations to get you started.

Follow-up visits

The follow-up visits usually last around 45-50 minutes. In the follow-up sessions we will review previous set goals and see how you are doing with your meal plan and what tweaks we may need to make. We will work together to come up with strategies to tackle any obstacles or struggles that you may be facing before the next time we meet, and formulate new goals to work on. The 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating will be a major focus of our visits.

Frequency and time spent in follow up sessions greatly depends on the purpose of our meeting, your goals, your readiness to change, what support systems you have in place, and many other factors. We will check in frequently and work together to decide how much support is needed.

Individual Meal Support

One-on-one meal support can help clients practice what they have been learning at their nutrition counseling sessions. Meal support is intended for participants who are struggling with disordered thoughts while having a meal, trying to decrease behaviors during or after a meal, or anyone who wants to practice mindful eating techniques. These meals can take place in a restaurant setting or during follow-up visits.

Intuitive Eating with Diabetes Group

Nutrition information regarding diabetes and controlling blood sugar can be conflicting and misleading. When you are first diagnosed it can be a confusing and frustrating time and you might find yourself not knowing how to eat to help your blood sugar. Research has linked Intuitive Eating with improved blood sugar and A1c levels in people who have diabetes. This virtual group is led by a Certified Diabetes Educator and Intuitive Eating Counselor designed for people who have Pre-diabetes or Type 2 Diabetes and are interested in intuitive eating practices to help manage blood sugars.

This is a 4 week long virtual group that will meet weekly for 60 minutes. This group is intended for those not in an active eating disorder and would like a weight neutral approach to diabetes education.

Insurance

Unfortunately, Michigan insurance companies do not accept dietitians in-network, therefore I cannot bill health insurance directly. If nutrition counseling is a covered benefit through your insurance provider, I can provide a Super Bill and any other forms you may need to file for reimbursement. I also accept HSA or FSA.

Cash, personal check, or credit card are all accepted forms of payment. Please contact me for more information on exact fees for nutrition counseling services.
